Success of Chang'e 3 soft landing and deployment of Yutu rover on the Moon
(Message from ILEWG
International Lunar Exploration Working Group)
The worldwide lunar
explorers and ILEWG community congratulate China and the
Chang'e 3 team for the success of Chang’e 3 soft
landing technology and Yutu rover deployment . We eagerly await the next
operations of the Yutu rover, the lander
instruments, and look forward to new scientific
results.
The recent fleet of
lunar orbiters (SMART-1, Kaguya, Chang'e 1 & 2,
Chandrayaan-1, LRO, GRAIL) has offered new global
views of the Moon and surprising discoveries.
Chang'e 3 starts the
next phase of lunar surface exploration, towards a
lunar global robotic village, with advanced
technologies and international
collaborations (as with ESA ground station support
to Chang’e 1, 2 and 3).
This will also
help preparing for human missions and the development
of international
lunar bases, as recommended by ILEWG and the space
exploration community* over the world.
